 Weeping Trout Sports Resort
The Resort is located near Haines in northern southeast Alaska in the gorgeous surroundings of the alpine Chilkat Lake and adjacent to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. The resort is accessible by aircraft from Juneau or Skagway or combination automobile and jetboat trip from Haines through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. The facility supports day trips or overnight stays for golfers, spin and fly fishers, photographers, and naturalists.

Golf - The executive golf course is a 9 hole, par 28 course which is fun and challenging as it winds through the old growth Sitka Spruce and Hemlock forest. The greens are sand-filled artificial turf. Fishing - Chilkat Lake contains 2400 surface acres of glacial-fed water that tumbles off the mountains. It is great trout habitat with numerous weed beds and drop-offs. Trophy Cutthroat Trout and Dolly Varden can be caught any time. 100,000 Sockeye salmon begin to enter Chilkat Lake in early July; fishing is strong through August. A run of 30,000 Coho enter the lake in mid September and peak in October. We generally spin fish from v-hulled boats and fly fish in flat bottom boats as we troll or drift along the shoreline near feeder creeks and streams. Fly-fishing is dependable in the mornings and evenings. Wading is limited to the fall season. Situated on the edge of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve eagles are abundant, as are swans and other sea and song birds. Moose, brown and black bear can be seen almost daily along the shores, and a favorite evening activity after July 1 is to boat to Bear Beach and view the brown bear feeding off spawning salmon. Mountain goats are spotted across the lake on Mount Chunkukleik in August. Additional activities include canoeing, sailing and hiking.

The main lodge building houses the kitchen, bar, toilet and shower facilities for all guests. Gourmet meals are served in the dining room that will satisfy the finest of palettes! Two sleeping cabins are available for overnight stays: one with three separate sleeping rooms, shared seating area, wood heat, solar-powered electric lights, cold-water plumbing and shared toilet. The second cabin has a sleeping loft with ample space for families, wood heat, propane lights and outdoor privy.
